Jonathan Sterne is Director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research Bristol Biomedical Research Centre (NIRH Bristol BRC), co-Director of Health Data Research UK South-West, and professor of medical statistics and epidemiology in Bristol Medical School.
He aims to apply modern data science approaches to translational research, contributing to the cross-BRC Health Informatics Collaborative and to research using trusted research environments/secure data environments.
During the pandemic, Jonathan was co-lead of the Longitudinal Health and Wellbeing COVID-19 National Core Study, which linked population-scale electronic health records with highly characterised longitudinal population studies.
He leads a large team producing novel, high impact research on COVID-19 vaccination and long COVID, based on analyses of up to 55 million people.
Jonathan’s other research interests include systematic reviews and meta-analyses, the clinical epidemiology of HIV and AIDS, and causal inference from observational data.
